10 Essentials you need to bring to every triathlon race and store permanently in your bag!

Packing your transition bag for a triathlon race. You probably heard some swimmers, cyclists or runners complain about how much they need for their race. We triathletes need more, without a doubt. That’s why you always should take some extra time to pack. Get the right bag for the race you’ll be competing in and be sure that you won’t be nervous because you’re not sure in which pocket you packed what.
1. Trisuit
Maybe not the most important one for the ones who compete in their first triathlon, but a trisuit will make it much easier during the whole race—you don’t need to change clothes after every discipline: you just swim, bike and run in the same suit.
2. Race band
Not every race has it, but most of it has them: bib numbers. You pin these on your race band with safety pins. You’ll wear the race band from the moment you come to your bike after the swim—ride with it (number on your back), then run with it (flip to your front).
3. Timing chip
Important! Sometimes a chip is provided, but if you registered with your own, pack it—it’s something you don’t use in training and it's easy to forget otherwise.
4. Spare tube (and pump/multi-tool)
A spare tube and a small pump or multi-tool can save you from a flat tire ruining your day—just in case, always pack them.
5. Little towel for the transition area
After the swim your feet are wet or dirty—step on a small towel before putting on shoes to reduce blisters and make transitions smoother.
6. Flip-flops or old socks
If swim start is far from T1, flip-flops or socks can keep your feet safe—drop them at the start or reclaim after the race.
7. Vaseline
Apply it around your neck before the swim to prevent wetsuit chafing—your skin will thank you.
8. Elastic bands
Attach your shoes to the bike or keep gels in place—elastic bands are transition hacks that save seconds.
9. Baby oil
Rub on forearms or lower legs before removing your wetsuit—it helps it slide off faster in T1.
10. Sunscreen
Protect your skin from the sun—especially your back after the swim. A sunburn after a race is no fun.
